Make a plan to get approval for standing desks

Now that you know the many advantages standing desks will bring to your students and school, let’s make it happen! We will walk you through step by step.


 

Step 1:

Determine how to approach administration.


Even though you know your administration from working with them on a daily basis, ask other teachers how they might successfully gain admin approval. They can give you the inside scoop. You can also try reaching out to Parent/Teacher organizations or the school health advisory committees.


Step 2:

Educate the parents and ask for their support.


Parents are your biggest advocates. Share the Stand2Learn advantages with them so they can be your cheerleaders and help get standing desks for school.


Step 3:

Think about involving your student organizations as a leadership development project.


Groups in science class or health are often in search of on campus improvement projects that they can take on to advance student experiences and health.


Step 4:

If possible, support your student organization to create a detailed presentation on standing desks for school.


Empower the students with research information. The administration will enjoy seeing the students get involved.


Step 6:

Set a meeting to present your plan.


The Administration may have authority to decide or you may need to approach the School Board. Your friends on staff should be able to help point you in the right direction.
